Airport Alternatives?

Sorry if this has been posted before... I have been trying to search but am on my PC at work and IE is dying. Anyway, I have been out of the loop for a bit with my Macs and just started using my G4 Sawtooth (450/768 ram/40 gig/9.2.1) seriously and am looking to add airport to it. After discovering that the airport cards compatable with it are discontinued and the rpices are skyrocketing, I am looking to other options. Does anyone know of a compatable 802.11b PCI card, or USB dongle, or any kind of hack I can do to get mine back online via wireless other than opening my wallet for an airport card?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

As far as I can tell, an Airp

As far as I can tell, an Airport card is just a Lucent wifi card without the antenna part and with remapped pins. But it would be nearly impossible to convert a normal wifi card to Airport-compatible. It would be possible to use an ethernet to wifi bridge to get the same effect, but that's external and around $50-80.

PC card in AP slot . . .

has worked for me, using a Pismo, a WaveLAN Silver and Apple's AP SW under OS9. Dunno if it'd work in a Sawtooth though. Can't hurt to try I guess. The PC card would stick out a bit further than does an AP card, so might have to do some sheet metal hacking to get it in there.

Excellent... I will look into

Excellent... I will look into this. What about an external USB wifi access point? The cost factor of these make me think I might as well break down and scout out an airport card on ebay, too, along with a copy of panther though.

Note that Apple swapped some

Note that Apple swapped some pins on the AP card so that people wouldn't just that sort of thing. Finding those pins would be a difficult task and those in the know are keeping it that way.
