The ANS needs AIX, either from Apple or IBM. I doubt either has it for sale anywhere. Maybe you could run LinuxPPC on it? And, of course, Mac OS will NOT run on one of those.

You need AIX running first

I believe you need AIX running on the ANS before you can install another OS to lauch off of it.

I didn't read anything in there about needing AIX in particular. You will need some OS on the ANS if you intend to use it and it's floppy drive to make all the boot floppies, but that stuff can be done on nearly any floppy equipped machine.

Just as an aside, if you need to boot an older machine with a burned CD... try different media. Some types are more friendly to older drives then others.

As a general rule, in my experience the "blueish" tinted blanks which seem to be the common cheap ones today are useless in old drives, particularly if you burn at high speeds. The best media seems to be the old gold colored stuff. (Which is often only rated for 2x-4x burning speed.) That is hard to find these days, of course, although if you're desperate, it might be worth trying the "audio-grade" media they sell which is labeled as being compatable with car and audio CD players. I think it might be the same thing, but I haven't tried using it for data myself.

The older but still available "greenish" stuff works fine in the SCSI drive I got out of a 7200. That's about the same vintage as an ANS.
