It says something that I never realised my rather succsessful computer sales/service business has enabled me to buy **NICE** things to replace the crap I'm using at the moment... and a quick look online leaves me with this shopping list.
1- 20" iMac G5. But should I just get a hunky-dory G5 and hook it up to the
2- Bang & Olufsen Beovision 1 - gorgeous, but overkill?
3- Grundig Amira 38 or 45 LCD TV, instead of the Beovision
3- Grundig Ovation CD/Radio, OR UMS5100 micro hi-fi...
...HELP. I've never tread these waters(ie. moderately pricey stuff) before and I'm not sure what's good and what's not. I want everything to match to some extent... anyone got any better ideas than what I've already come up with?(be realistic...i can only afford to part with preferably
Yes I'm aware that I misspelled 'successful'. Why aren't we allowed to edit initial posts?
EDIT: ...more... the last line should end with "...under AU$8000 over the next 6 months." but it's just not there for some reason...
You have an odd definition of "gorgeous". I think "egregious" is a more fitting word.
(Not only is it ugly, it's $3000. For a 25" tube TV. Riiight.)
Not to sound like your dad or anything, but you might want to think through your priorities a bit before you go on your Bang & Olufsen spending spree. There's more interesting things to be had in life besides useless, over-engineered yuppie cr*p. Just because you can (at least right now) afford those things doesn't mean you *need* them.

Aah shuddup.
I've actually made my way to the bottom of my priorities list... paid off all my loans, etc.
And I've wanted a Bang & Olufsen TV for years...
OK. Gorgeous IMHO. Just like the TAM. Well, kinda.
Soo... the Grundig LCDs would be a better idea?
Feh. Outlets like "Bang & Olufsen" make me break out in hives. I just don't see the attraction of wasting money so... willfully.
Anyway. Different strokes for different folks. Whatever floats your boat. ;^>
It looks like a TV, with the option of having a chrome pole stuck in the bottom of it. The ambiance of a bus station in your own home can now be yours!
If I were in the market for a fancy TV I'd probably get a DLP projection model myself. I almost bought one not too long ago.
Of course, I decided to take flying lessons instead. Cheating death is much more fun when you're doing it rather then watching it.

If I were you, instead of getting a 20" iMac G5, I'd go on eBay and buy the nicest G5 you think you need. For me, that'd either be a 1.6 or a 1.8Ghz single. Then head to Bestbuy, and buy two identical 17" LCD's. Spend a little more to upgrade the RAM in the G5 to a gigabyte or so, and then I'd think you're set. If you play your cards right, you'll pay less that for a 20" iMac and you'll have a lot more screen resolution, more speed, and much more upgradability.
Think about it...
Hell, get a projector and a screen. Then you could just plug in one of your older computers and surf the web from your couch.
Sure, you'd get a bigger screen image, but that wouldn't help much. What you want is resolution. Although you did make me think that getting 2 1024x768 projectors hooked up in spanning mode and then projected so that they're perfectly touching each other is the only way to get completely borderless spanning...
Save your money?
Err... I've spent approximately zilch since I started FixItNow!(my little company)... and that counds as saving IMHO.
I thought of something along the G5 lines, but... the G5 is too big. And I'm in love with the G5 iMac. I'd like a 17" one(the LCD TV I buy will make up for the smaller screen size...) but AFAIK they top out at 1.6GHz.
OK, Eudi, you got me thinking... I've decided to dump the Bang & Olufsen ideas and go with Grundig all 'round. Well, maybe one of those TDK flat-panel CD/radio jobs to hang on the wall under the TV...
I found a pic of the grundig thingy. it looks nice. The bang and olfseon looks like way overpriced plain tv's. They don't appeal to me.
Never knew a B&O opened down on the Plaza, that's where all the ritzy shops are. Saks 5th, Tiffany, Armani Xchange, etc. Too bad they closed FAO Schwartz...
i just bought a CRT projector on ebay, 200 bucks shipped. I have a nice white sheet for a screen. Im sure you could do better, but they are awesome. I will never buy a normal TV again.
