I would normally post on the official xpostfacto message boards, but at this time, I have more crucial things to spend $25 on, like gas and food.
I have a PowerMac 7300 with about 440 MB of RAM and a Sonnet Crescendo G3 Upgrade Card that I got for free off of craigslist this summer. I have an internal 1.2 gig scsi drive with OS 9.1 installed and an external 2.0 gig scsi drive I intend to install OS X on via xpostfacto. I have tried diddling around with all kinds of different settings in the control panel, but no matter what I do, I get this weird error message that loops and loops and loops...
it starts out with:
Nov 29 12:29:58 init: ignoring excess arguments
and then it goes onto:
Nov 29 12:29:58 init: /bin/sh on /etc/rc terminated abnormally, going to single user mode
Nov 29 12:29:58 init: fatal signal: Illegal instruction
And it just loops the last 2 inits over and over again. I'm a *nix moron and while I have seen /bin/sh and /etc/rc in the past, I have no idea what significance that stuff holds. I've searched google with no avail. If anyone here knows what is wrong, I would be greatful to know.

I also have a 7300 with a G3 upgrade, and I have been trying to install OS X on it for some time. Which version are you trying to install? I have had the most success with 10.1.5. I have had no success with 10.2 or 10.3, but 1 out of 3 times, 10.1 seems to work for me. The 7300's are finicky with this, there's no question about that, but probably every machine trying to run XpostFacto is that way. That being said, I think that your primary problem is that you are trying to install onto an external drive. To my knowledge, this is not possible with XpostFacto. You may be able to install it on the 1.2 GB disk, if you manage your space effectively. I know that I have had my best success installing onto an internal drive. Like I said before, It seems to be easiest with 10.1. If you can get that installed, you will pobably have a better shot at upgrading it from there. Hopefully, for both of us, XpostFacto 3.0 will make this go more smoothly. Anyway, that's just what I know from here. Best of luck!

Ah, I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that has had problems with the 7300.
Indeed, I have been attempting to install 10.3. I'll go back and attempt 10.0 as soon as I find my CD. I'll come right back here with my results after that.
