Hi:

Just got a slot loading iMac DV M5521. 400mhz, 2 firewire, rage 128...

It has 9.1 on the 10gb HD. I tried to install 10.3 in it. It went on for about 2-3 steps and rebooted and the video went funny. I forced it to boot into 9.1 on the HD again and now the video looks like it been over driven. I tried calibrations and still the same. I was wandering how can I restored the video.

I download the newest firmware from 2001 and I'll try to update the firmware tomorrow.

Thanks for any help.

It's a little late, but yes, the firmware update is what you need. There should be an update on the OS X CD. Boot the OS 9 CD, then stick in the OS X CD and run the updater. If that woun't work, install OS 9 to the HDD, then boot off that and then use the OS 10 CD. You can be sure that the firmware update on the OS X CD will be one that will let it work.

I'm really miffed at Apple for not including a very simple check to be sure a proper firmware version is running before they let you install OS X, or at least give a warning before it does.

Firmware

Ya, It worked.I used the one from apple's web site.

Again, yes, they should have run a check and issue a warning instead of go ahead and then quit when the system is all mess up.

I had the same problem, but...

The OS is 8.6 and I dont have 9. The firmware update on the cd is only for 9.1 or above. What do I do?

Look like you'll need to install OS 9.1 or higher on it first. I love 8.6 for it stability. But 9.2.1 isn't that bad.
