get a PC window kit.put it

paint it HIGH GLOSS black.
get a PC window kit.
put it in the back of the screen.
take out the RF sheilding, or put some LEDs behind it so it lights up.

easy, wild, and cool.

That's not true. It was the first powerbook to feature a CD-ROM drive internally, and the keyboard was said to be pretty good.

I like the 1400 series. Have nice screens (if you get a c and not cs), they had GREAT keyboards, and they were extremely solid. They had almost all the ports you could need built in (except ethernet), and they were the first to have swappable bays.

Not bad machines at all.

Awwww....someone's gwumpy again! Crying

I was quite fond of my 1400cs - except for the passive matrix screen, so a 1400c would have been a real joy to have.

Do you have the clear top for it? A couple home-made pictures to go under the insert would be a great, and entirely reversible project.

if you don't have a clear top...how about making one up and documenting the process?

Last time I had a 1400 I spent a few hours trying to work out a good way to install a beefy sound system in it(two small stereo speakers and a larger mono 'woofer' in place of the PCMCIA slots), but decided to just forget it and sell the thing. Might be cool to have a 1400 'boombox'.

I love my 1400. Mine used to be a 1400CS, replacing the LCD with an active-matrix variety made a HUGE difference. I use it for writing notes, basic coding newbieness, and MIDI sequencing. Quite solid, feels great. Real advantages of this machine are that parts are cheap, and it has got to be the easist laptop to modify/ repair ever. I can field strip the thing in way less than five minutes.

WTF is a "PC Window Kit"?
