Calling All Hackers

Hey all:

Here's a challenge for someone; Rush Limbaugh just got a new 30' Cinema Display last week, and is frustrated because the power button on the new display doesn't start the computer up like the old Apple displays did. (I think it's because Apple is moving from the ADC to DVI connector.) Now he has to get down on all fours to get to the power button.

He was talking/complaining about the situation last Friday, and asked for someone in the listening audience to come up with a hack to bring back the old functionality of booting the machine up by pressing a button on the monitor. I wrote to him suggesting that he just leave the machine running and use Fast User Switching to log out instead of shutting down/starting up every day, but I haven't heard any updates on the issue yet (I think he get's on the order of a million or so e-mails every day, so I'm not holding my breath waiting for a response.)

So, if any of you have a bright idea of how to make it work, maybe post it here or go to http://www.gadgetopia.com/2004/12/10/AppleDumbingDownPeripherals.html or maybe just e-mail it to him at rush@eibnet.com .

Why on earth is he turning it

Why on earth is he turning it off?! Apple invented "sleep" 15 years ago for a reason. Hit keyboard, computer turns on...

Done and done.

I've already figured out this hack, but I'll only share it with Rush if he publicly states that he supports an owner's right to modify hardware and denounces Sony and Microsoft for quashing attempts to hack their game consoles.
