running programs in Single-usr mode

I was wondering if there is a way to run X11 in Single-user mode. (You know, when you press command-s when starting up?) It would kinda be cool if I could use my PB in Single usr mode and run OpenOffice on it. I also wonder if you could launch OS X apps in the OS X terminal. I mean, is there a run/start command to launch apps (either in OS X/Single- User/ Terminal) ?

No. You can run X11 in consol

No. You can run X11 in console mode if you use the non-Apple executables. (XDarwin Xfree86, fink, etc. Again, this won't work with the Apple binary.)

(Console mode being one of OS X's undocumented features. To get it, configure OS X to Display Login Windows as "username and password" under "Login Options" under "accounts". Then at the login window type ">console" as the username, no password.)

You can start an OS X program from the command line using "open /path/to/program.app". (Or by finding and running the executable inside the .app directory. What looks like a program in the finder in OS X is actually a directory structure.) However, none of them will work if you're running from a console login, since they depend on Quartz to function.

thanks!!

I'm actually running Safari from within the X11 Environment. (or is there a Finder running there too?) but this is exactly what I wanted to do!!! I can summon an App. with a stroke of the keys. (kinda reminds me of a certain OS I used before)
Interestingly enough, is that I can still access the apple menu (include Sys. Prefs.) however, there is no dock... But this would be my type of setup A perfect blend of typing and Graphics combined. I think I might never login w/ my reg. account again if I can help it..
Thx again.
