TiBook G4 667. Convert into a headless Mac?

Hello all,

The TiBook G4 667 is really banged up and it seems to be coming near the end of its life. I would like to convert the TiBook into a headless Mac and use it as a HTPC connected to a front projector via DVI-out for DVD playback. I would like to use the 15.2" screen as a stand-alone LCD screen hooked up to another computer.

Is it possible to convert the TiBook into a headless Mac and a separate stand-alone LCD screen? How difficult is it? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

A != B

You can certainly rip the LCD off a Titanium. The biggest issue with doing so is you have to "trick" the system into turning on screen mirroring at boot. The standard technique is to trick the system into thinking the lid is closed. On AC power with a USB keyboard and mouse attached it mirrors by default.

However, ripping the LCD off isn't going to do you any good. It's essentially useless without the Titanium to drive it. Converting it to a monitor involves several hundred dollars in parts (A difficult to find programmable LCD controller, custom cabling and power supplies, etc.) and is beyond the abilities of mere mortals.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like I would be better off just using the whole TiBook rather than parts of the TiBook.

I'm doing this with an original 500 MHz PB G4. Just rip the display off and then at start-up, press Apple-Fx (where x is I-forget-which-F-key) to switch to mirroring mode.
