Beige G3 Jaguar Problems

I have a beige G3 233 which I am trying to install 10.2 on but every time it has booted off the install CD when it has got to the blue screen the installer quits with the error type 0. Does ajny bosy have any idea why this is?

Thanks in advance,

Joel

How much RAM do you have, is it a SCSI or IDE drive, was it working previously?

Do yo already have anything on the HDD? If you do have MacOS 9 on there, update it to 9.2. THen, boot into OS 9 and put in the CD, then start the installer from the CD. IT'll weant to reboot, but it'll have made some OpenFirmware changes to help it boot into X. You might be missing some of those.

It has...

The beige has 192Mb of RAM, I tried taking one of the sticks out and booting but that made no difference.

The HDD has 10.1.5 already installed on it and I'vre tried both bootging off the 10.2 CD (holding down C) and running the installer from the CD.

The hard drive is an IDE drive as is the CD drive.

I'll try booting into 9 and running it from there anway,

Thanks,

Joel

OS 9

I've tried it from OS 9 and its made no difference. The beige has a pci1045,c861 USB card in one of the PCI slots, could this make a difference??

Try pullingthe USB card and seeing if it helps. If it does, find another card, maybe a cheap FW/USB2.0.

If that doesn't work, try clearing the OF settings:
Boot and hlod Cmd-Opt-P-R and let it chime three times, it'll take a little bit, but that should clear any setting in OF and PRAM. Boot into OS 9 from HDD or CD. You'll have to reset the date too, so do that first. Then, in ( booted from the HDD, instert the CD and see if the installer will then run.
