Yeah I believe I have something wrong with my video bored the iMac (tray loading Rev A) will snap and pop when the interial monitor is connected... unconnected it makes no pop'n or snap'n sounds... So I would like to use my VGA SyncMaster 753df 17" monitor. I have a Belikin Adapter like this one

http://www.belkin.com/support/download/downloaddetails.asp?download=174&lang=1

Will it work with the iMac? I can not get it to work maybe I dont know how to set it?

It doesnt look like this is any use. You dont have a port to plug that into.

I have heard of being able to plug in an external monitor using the internal connections, maybe this is what you mean. Just try different settings on it to see if it makes any difference

I can't see that adapter at the moment as the Belkin site seems to be down (!?!).

But, if its a VGA connector into a DB-15 old style apple connector it will work.

In other words, if its a simple vga adapter that physically fits it should work...

Internal monitor dead = future iMacQuarium

I just want to suggest that if the internal monitor is dead, I think you should take out the computer part of the iMac, do a project with that (like the rack-mountable cases), and then turn the shell into an aquarium or some other cool thing.

I can tell you what the problem is. The flyback transformer is dead.

IIRC the iMac uses a really weird refresh rate. It is possible that your monitor does not support that rate.

The iMac is capable of driving almost any standard CRT. The refresh rates default to the ones the attached CRT can support.
