I was wondering if it would be feasible to install a titanium G4 keyboard on my aluminum model laptop. As far as I know, the only difference is where the screws are located. Will that be a big deal? Can someone please fill me in?

key swapping?

is it because the keyboard deosnt work or do you just want the black keys? if you just want the keys just try popping off the silver keys and popping the black ones on. i dont know if they'll fit but its worth a try.

Ti keys

The keys on the Ti (400 and 500 at least) will fit on the Aluminum PowerBook. However, be aware that the aluminum has a dedicated eject key while the Titanium has F12 doing double duty as the eject key, much like the iBook/iBook G4. Another cool thing to note is that Titanium keys will fit on an iBook (dual usb) and g4 keyboard. I'm in the midst of putting my new revision to the backlit iBook G4 keyboard together. I'll have pics when it's done.

My keyboard doesn't work. a n

My keyboard doesn't work. a new titanium keyboard on ebay is $10. A new aluminum keyboard on ebay is $120. I was really hoping the keyboards were interchangeable. Does anyone know for sure?

They're not interchangable, b

They're not interchangable, but the Al keyboard is a vast improvement. If you really don't want to spend the money, I guess you could invest in a small USB keyboard to tote around with you.

Keyboard

Have you tried resetting the keyboard cable? If not, I may be able to get you a keyboard at a nominal price. PM me.

$80

your local mac service shop (or apple store) should be able to order or sell you a keyboard service part for around $80, a lot less than the $120 on eBay

the main difference (I believe) between the two is the the Ti's still used internal ADB for the keyboard, whereas the Al's finally moved to using USB for it

AlBoard

Here in Australia a new keyboard for an AlBook is AU$70, which I'd assume is about US$50 at most.

Definitely check with your local Apple service centre.
