Cleaning

How do you clean the outside case of a Performa all-in-one case. I'm just wondering because mine is really dirty and I want to know how to clean it.

Thanks

And just to let you know, I am smart enough to put the warm water on the rag.

Ha! That's good!

I also use a small amount of Simple Green or similar if the cases are really grungy. I've heard that if a case is really yellowed that bleach will take that out. Don't quote me on that; I'd suggest googling for answers on getting the yellow out of cases if that's what you're looking at doing.

Na...

My case isn't that grungy, nor is it yellowing. It's really grungy on the inside though, and the previous owner dropped some screws in the bottom. I can't get them out and you would understand why if you had a Performa 5200cd. The color is just a bit browner than it should be.

well then

soap and water (on a rag, haha) should do it. I have even used this on an original macintosh. Maybe a little Goo-Gone (yellow citris cleaning solution) should get rid of any gunk that is sticky or gummy

If you're going to dismantle

If you're going to dismantle the machine in order to clean it, VIM works very well. It's not abrasive enough to scratch the plastic and it does a fantastic job of cleaning.

If I'm taking a mchine apart to clean, I will submerse the plastic in warm water and wash it with VIM cleaner. Then it's just a quick rinse and towel dry.

Cleaning the mac

I find that Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work really well on beige Macs. They take off those black scuff marks too, and get that brown stuff off keyboard key-tops. It doesn't take off the rough-style finish on old macs either.
