After recently acquiring a Newton 2100, I decided to attempt to get it online. So, after getting the wi-fi driver and the 'more wi-fi' thing from Kallisys.com, I put in a unknown version number Linksys WCP11 card. I'm pretty sure it is not the version 4 card-bus version. I got Newtcape and setup a internet setup for our network.

Sadly, though, when ever I try to go to anywhere, it gives me a warning that it couldn't connect to the DHCP server. The activity light on the card continues to blink and nothing really much else happens. When I set it for a static IP address, it eventually says that it couldnt' connect to the DNS server. On the other hand, when I try to connect to my server, it tries connect but eventually says that there was a connection problem but doensn't say what it was. Does anyone have any suggestions?

WEP?

I do not have my WaveLAN card on my right now, so I am doing this from memory...

I know that if your wireless is using WEP, then you need to make sure your card supports this (not familiar with yours, so pardon if already does) and that you have registered the driver to enable support for WEP.

Also, if the Wi-Fi point gives you any messages or prompts, you will have problems as Newts do not usually know how to handle this. (Which is why I cannot use my 2100 at Panera - the dialogs boxes do not come through right.)

If you have done all this, you may want to take it out to NewtonTalk. There were some things in the archives about this driver.

Incidentally, you may want to check out NetHopper once you get past this - it is a nice app and not too big.

HTH

Any luck?

I remembered pretty right when I checked on my Newton (It is under the Prefs for the card (but the card must be in).

Have you gotten anywhere yet?

Hmm...

Not yet. I was borrowing a wireless card from someone else at the time. I have since bought a Intel Pro/Wirless 2011 802.11b card that is compatible with the wireless Newton driver. I got it off of eBay, so, I've got to wait until it arrives. I'm hoping that it fares better.

Hmm...

Yep, got my Pro/Wireless 2011 card today. Put it in my Newton, and then setup everything just as it should be. Nothing changes. It's like it isn't even working. My web server on my LAN doesn't even register that anything is trying to connect to it. Not even its firewall shows anything.

Perhaps I should try Newtontalk. It might help some. I suppose.

Hmm...

Well, the card works fine now. I just had to remove the 'More Wi-fi' package that I had put on there. Everything seems to work just fine now. That was a simple enough problem.
