Indirect Newton Internet Connect

While procrastinating for finals (yeah, yeah, I know) and not having sleep in over 24 hours, (I don't want to hear about this one) a thought occurred to me.

If I have a Newton (OMP, NOS 1.10), can I connect it to the interweb via a modem cable, a modem, and the IP-proxying ability of MacOS X.2.8? I mean, plug the newton into the modem, the modem into the iBook, turn on Internet Sharing to the modem port, and go? And send email and whatnot that way?

HOW SWEET WOULD THAT BE??

...just a thought. Back to (not doing my) Theravada Buddhism...

it sounds like somthing simul

it sounds like somthing simular to a dialup server that was done with the dreamcast dialup modem hooked up to the dialup modem in the comp and the comp would use the dialup modem in the comp as a generic network card of sortsand send and receve a internet signal to the device on the comps dialup modem. this is the only way i found to do anything like this on Mac i went to google and typed dreamcast dialup server for Mac look at all of the links it gives you. Its been done with windows 98 also and the people talk about it here www.onlineconsoles.com in the dreamcast section. now the reason i explained this was if a dreamcast can do this so why not a newton if it has a dialup adapter.

I wonder...

IF I set the internal modem to connect via PPP, and give the newton and the iBook the same phone numbers, would that work?

How about a direct serial con

How about a direct serial connection? Is there no sfotware for NOS that does SLIP or PPP over a direct link? I've never used a Newton or investigated them, but I'm sure there is something like that. Use a null modem setting, and do a direct serial link, unless your iBook doesn't have serial ports! Doh! USB serial dongle? That would certainly be faster than using an actual modem.

Before I got a wifi card for

Before I got a wifi card for my MP2100, I had to connect it to my iBook for grabbing the ROM for use in Einstein. So, I set up PPP on both the newt and the mac, chose the null modem driver and hooked them via serial, I made them both dial 00 and they connected to each other with TCP and let me download the ROM. However, i could not use the internet at the same time, but with a PPP server it should work.
