ok, I got this 233mhz wallstreet on ebay for cheap. it has 160mb ram, 4gb (upgraded to 20gb) HDD, it HAD 9.0.4 on the old drive. it has the 13.3" problem display. well, at first I thought it was a Mainstreet (casheless) model. well, in Apple Sysytem Pofiler, the computer said it had a 512k cashe, but it was indeed a 233mhz model. so, I have a Series I/II hybrid, I guess.
well, first, we have the display. it flickers, it whites out, it get lines, odd colours, etc. well, I was just messing around, and I did the trick of squezzing the bezel, and that cured it for a bit. now it's back and very bad. well, today I took the beast apart, and removed the display. I dismantled the display, and I noticed the 2 cables were wrapped around the hinges. So, I unwrapped them, straightened them out (carefully), and plugged er in.
still the same problem, so I need some help here,
second, I read some where that the later models of wallstreets have the light up apple logo, as do every other powerbook onwards.
while I have the display open, can I make the apple logo light up? I Know it is powered by the display's backlight. On my wallstreet, the apple logo is a piece of semi transperent frosted white plastic. I know that and LCD has a backlight, then a panel that disperses the light. in my LCD, there is a massive about of silver coloured tape over said panel. if i were to remove the tape, would that allow my wallstreet to glow?
or should I wait until Post-christmas, take it into the apple store, and have them fit it with a 14.1" LCD? i really dont want to sink anymore money into this thing. I paid $75 shipped, because:
1. I dont like the Tibooks and the AiBooks
2. broke as can be right now. wallstreet was the fastest thing in my budget.
please help. im stranded.

The Apple Store would probably charge you an exceedingly expensive amount of money to replace such a part.
When I had the lower housing of my TiBook replaced (just a hunk of metal! No LCDs here) it cost 300,000 South Korean won (about US$300 at the time), and that was after the had already introduced new aluminum PBs, too.
Your best bet is to buy a Wallstreet display off eBay (As of my typing this they seem to be $50-$75 (+$15-20 shipping). I don't know whether plunking down around just under $100 fits within "broke as can be." Obviously, your call.
I imagine you could either pay Apple or an Apple-certified tech to install it for another amount of exhorbitant money, but if I were you I'd do it myself. You already seem to be comfortable taking the beast apart (as you have already done so), so I think you can defeinitely do it yourself
Any displays you buy are also more likely to have the shining Apple logo, but beware that on the WallStreet models, it's very dim compared to the following models.
And while we're on the subject of not liking AlBooks, I also don't like it. It takes industrial design to an extreme and seems terribly utilitarian with absolutely no design flair whatsoever. I mean there is a certain appeal to the minimalism itself, but I preferred the look of the slightly more elaborate TiBooks.
Also unacceptable was its being THICKER than my TiBook and with SHORTER battery life.
Though I certainly don't like the TiBooks's exposed and damage-prone hinges, its peeling white paint, and its crappy AirPort reception.
And yes, I am aware in the hypocrisy of complaining about the TiBook's not being durable and the AlBook's being thicker and less flamboyant to cure the durability

but do you know if the plugs are the same?
and do you know if the current LCD is fixable? because I can get it to be legible, but as hard/long that I squeeze, the darn thing wont be perfect. I really dont want to plunk down the $$ unless I have to.
oh, and the battery just started to charge!! since I got it, the battery was dead, and the seller said it wont take a charge, but it just started, and is up to to lights. I stuck it in the freezer the other day for about 4 hours, and it just started today.
oh, and the charger didnt come with the laptop. what I did was use a little social engineering, and used the online form to order one under the repair extension programme, and where it asked for the serial number of the AC adapter, I put in the serial number for the laptop. 3 days later, I get a box with the special "Do not break seal unless using parts" tape, and inside was my very own, brand new 45 watt yo-yo adapter!! for free too. they want me to send the old adapter back, but I dont have one to begin with. will they begin to get curious?
I should have saved my old Compaq adapter which shorted out, and sent it to them.
