Macbook Pro, iBook Keys

Because I had nothing better to do today at work, I took all the letters and punctuation off an iBook keyboard I had lying around. I also used the tab, caps lock, return, etc. just so I could have the 3 rows completely white.

Theres actually a few benefits to doing this:
The ENTIRE key now glows when I turn on the keyboard light- it looks way cool!
For some reason these keys seem to be giving me a little more tactile feedback.

I'd do the whole keyboard but I can't figure out how to get the spacebar off, and the function/eject keys are not the same because the iBook has the little clips to get at the 'books insides.

As far as I can tell, I may be one of the first people in the world to try this.

Very Impressed with Apple Support

On Tuesday my 15" Macbook Pro battery stopped charging. Fearing the worst, I kept it plugged in and let it sit overnight. On Wednesday, it still would not charge, so I started looking online for possible solutions. Finding nothing of much value, I decided to just call Apple.
After spending maybe 20 minutes on the phone with Rob, after doing an SMC reset, Rob set me up to have a new battery shipped to me for free.
I regretted not having it overnighted, because I do need my 'book for school and whatnot, and with no battery, its kinda difficult to use. However, when I woke up this morning, there was a brand new battery sitting on my doorstep.
I opened it up and it was a fully charged, apparently brand new battery with 0 cycles.

SCORE!

So its now charging and I am feeling much better about this whole situation. I understand that faulty products do happen, and I am just glad that Apple has dealt with this in a very timely and amicable fashion.

Its Official, I've Switched

So I got this Macbook Pro for my birthday, on the 13th of January. Previously, I'd been using primarily Windows XP and OS 9 on my Powerbook 1400.
After using OS X Tiger for two weeks, I've really gotten used to it, and now XP really bugs the $@*& out of me. I've traded Trillian for iChat, Firefox for Safari, and surprisingly, at least to me, most other apps I've gotten used to seem even BETTER on the mac side.

All in all, I'm very glad I asked for a Mac, and not another PC for my birthday.

I got a MacBook Pro!

2.16GHz Core Duo, 1 gig RAM, 128MB VRAM, 120 gig HD.

This is by far the most powerful and expensive computer I have ever used. It is the only computer I have ever gotten new. It is also my very first OS X machine.

All in all, I'm loving it.

I now work for Togo's Great Sandwiches.

I finally quit my job at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Believe it or not, but that is a terrible place to work. I now work at the Togo's in Watsonville, CA, and that is a much, much more enjoyable job. I just need to eat before I go to work! ;)

Job, gas, and other worries.

So life's kinda hectic lately. I got a job, at the Boardwalk, working weekends for $7.25 an hour. So I get to drive somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 miles a week. Thats insane. Plus, I go to Castroville almost every Saturday, and most Sundays, too. Jeez. I have $20 in the bank. It costs me more than that to fill up my tank. I have half a tank left. I think I'm going to need to either a) borrow money from the parents, or b) not drive to school, only to work, and to do stuff otherwise, and get a ride from the parents to/from school. That last one seems best, because I have no idea about how much I'm going to make on the average paycheck, and I know it will at least for now, be less than I need for gas.

So far, this job thing is costing me more money than I make.

4th try. I'm 3 days into it. I've been sick. Thats most of the reason I decided to try, I really don't get cravings while dying from the flu. So its been about 3 days since my last smoke. And now, I'm getting better. The cravings are back. I feel like I'm dying. Bleh...

I got my license back.

My drivers license, that is. I'm pretty darn happy..I went to the pet store and got a couple of goldfish to celebrate.

[For those of you who don't know, my license was suspended due to a pretty major legal snafu, most of which wasn't my fault. Anyway, its all over now, so I can sit back and relax. Oh yeah, and drive places, too!]

I might be getting a car.

Its a 1987 VW Cabriolet. I'm pretty excited. If I do get it, its going to be a great deal. I have the money, now its just up to the parents. They might not want their son with a suspended license to get his own car ;)

The story of an Addict.

The time has come for me to come clean.
I am a 17-year-old mac addict. Through it all, though, I have had the support of my many fellow Addicts here on AF. I want to thank you all for your wonderful support. When I relapse, you are all here to set me straight. When I think about using a PC, all I need to do is return to AF and I know I'll be welcomed back with open arms.
I guess what I want to say is, thank you all for being here. You make the life of an addict much less terrible than it might be.
Loving you all,

theMIKE

Rebuilding My Collection

I used to have a great collection of Macs and a few older PC systems. Due to family issues, and moving into a house with a much smaller workspace, though, I had to get rid of almost all of my stuff. Lately, I have been rebuilding. I am now up to 7 PC's and 2 or 3 Mac systems.
That I know of:
The Macs
Powerbase 200
Powermac 6100
Quadra 631CD
Soon to get a PB 3400c

*The PCs
Custom built high-end PC (my main system)
Heavily upgraded AT system based on a Hyundai board
Packard Bell Axcel 4630 (upgraded)
Unknown AMD 520 mHz PC
Cyrix 486 AT PC
AMD 386 DX/DXL-40 board, working on getting that set up
HP Vectra (not currently running)
Thinkpad 350c (bad case and dead display and I/O bus is on the fritz)
Armada 7370 DMT (bad power board)

Almost all of these systems were free, or cost very little. I love the AT systems; they are providing me with a great learning experience, and that makes me happy. Thats all for now :)
