Kiwis for Breakfast

I love making software do things it wasn't intended to do.

Drupal wasn't, as far as I know, intended to run two separate forum systems off of one user base, sharing users/passwords/sessions/etc. But we're doing it for Kiwi. And that's just cool. And I'm sure once all the features requests come in (there's already one requesting a merged tracker option) we'll do some more impossible things.

Now, I'm off for breakfast at Milliways.

(Now some Drupal guru is going to pop up and tell me that I just needed the ezKiwi module or something)

On another note, I bumped into a fellow in the Linux lab today who was polite enough to inform me that I was clearly a Mac user. Something about how I look making it obvious. Apparently I'm a stereotype. But if Kiwi works out as it should, I should have enough whuffie that it won't matter.

Bringing Back The 'Fritter

Ok folks, here's what's been running through my head for the last while. You may have noticed that it's been almost one of those year things since we stopped producing The 'Fritter around here. I think we've probably all pronounced it dead and buried. I'm interested in starting up another similar project (probably hosted and operated outside of Applefritter), and I'm wondering if there's any sort of demand for yet another 'zine? If there is, what kind of material do you folks want to see more of?

Just curious. If anything comes of this blog, I'll throw a link up to it eventually. Probably looking at a July/August launch time even if I get going on it right away. With enough time to look back on the 'Fritter, I think I've seen the areas where we really needed some work, as well as seeing what our strengths our.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Tea Support

Hey folks -

For anyone interested, yes I am working on the 'Fritter, it's just going rather slowly. This next issue will contain my Keynote article (absurdly dated by now), a Doc Webster article as always, a quick article on using stylesheets within a webpage, a review of Cory Doctorows "Eastern Standard Tribe", though mainly focussing on the license behind the book, and a review of the book "Mac Confidential 2.0" which I've just finished.

I'm so utterly happy someone actually sent me a review copy of something :macos:

As for work right now, I'm finally out of High School and I'm working phone tech support (or will be in two weeks once I get out of training). Work's from 7 am to 2:30 pm, so I'm usually home by 3, so as soon as I get some stuff done, I should have a fair amount more time to work on AF stuff. Getting up at 6 sucks, but I've developed a new appreciation for tea and my thermos.

Speaking of which, I've been told that because of the amount of sugar I put in my tea, it actually smells like fruitloops. As I've got a horrid sense of smell, I can't actually tell. Is there anything I can put in my tea to kill the smell so that I don't distract folks?

Imagine

The text from my newest english project video:

The first steps weren't hard

Some forward

Some back

But sure enough

We're getting there

Step by step

Imagine

If all the things we created

To bridge the gaps

Bring us together

Imagine if it actually did.

Everything For Everyone

Hey folks -

Just playing with the blogging feature, which actually seems pretty cool so far. It seems to be easy to use, and my Powerbook Duo 210 is handling it just fine. Naturally, as soon as I saw bloggage, I thought of a couple of 'Fritter articles (come on, you know you never read em the first time):

http://www.applefritter.com/thefritter/21/contributing.php

That's a nice little article about contributing stuff to the internet. I like it, but it might be trash for all I know. I tend not to trust stuff that comes right out of my own head.

Also:

http://www.applefritter.com/thefritter/19/blog.php

A nice little article on blogging. Also possibly garbage.

Well, after being that boring, I'm going to be a bit more boring and post my opinions on the songs on the new BNL albulm, Everything For Everyone:

Celebrity - Really quite a decent song. Well worth listening to.

Maybe Katie - I think it's incredible. It would be an understatement to say I think it's phenominal.

Another Postcard - Fun and fast. I'm getting tired of it quickly.

Next Time - Slow and moody. Though it doesn't make me want to go at the CD with a screwdriver, it does make me want to press the skip button.

For You - Pressing 'skip' twice after Another Postcard is starting to be a reflex action.

Shopping - Fun, yet oddly irritating. Not bad, but I'm getting tired of it just as fast as Another Postcard

Testing 1,2,3 - Nothing short of phenominal. This song makes me want to form a new opinion, get a little work done, and forget. The way the verses are structured is great.

Upside Down - This cannot be them. It simply can't. The music is all wrong. Not really bad, but different.

War On Drugs - Whoa.

Aluminum - I don't feel the urge to listen to it for hours, but still worth the listen.

Unfinished - They stole my joke from the first link. Um...I mean, mildly funny.

Second Best - If you know what they're talking about, please tell me.

Take It Outside - If I didn't know better, I'd swear they were stalking me and writing songs about it.

Have You Seen My Love - This one does make me want to scratch it off with a screwdriver. I'm restraining myself, only because I like Maybe Katie and Testing 1,2,3 too much.

If you're still reading this, please, go, call some friends, get out of the house. There are better things in life.
