Yet another iPod problem

It froze again. I reset it, seeing as there was nothing else to do. Now, after I see the Apple logo I see a file folder icon with the ! in a triangle next to it. I tried plugging it into my computer, hoping I could just update the iPod software. Nothing.

Do I have to like send this thing in to get it fixed? I have done nothing to it in the period of my ownership to damage it as such. It has never been dropped or misused. This is the second time now that I've had to reset it to get it to work (it took me 3 trys last time). I'm beginning to get slightly fed up with this. My sisters works just fine.

Try running the iPod install CD and using the "Restore" option.  That should reset the HDD to the factory state, meaning you will lose all your music, but it might work.  It is more in depth than just hooking it up and letting iTunes update it.

The computer doesn't even recognise it when I plug it in. I think I might have to use a computer with built in firewire. Ho hum.

yeah - try it with a machine that has built in firewire, and run the restore part of the 'ipod software updater' program (applications/utilities/? in mac os X). If THAT fails then take it in.
