Success! A long time ago I posted to the forum for advice, and several were kind enough to take the time to respond. With that advice and some perserverence, I finally got my "Poor man's iPod" up and running. It's my first (long-running!) attempt at upgrading a cc, so it's nothing really fancy, but it works! http://scienceman.com/pgs/archive24_cc.html Thanks again for the help - great forum!

Painting... Suspend by wire in the workshop, then give it multiple coats of the following: 1. cheapo gold walmart spray paint! 2. couple of coats of "hammered bronze" I picked one with metallic flecks to give it a little sparkle. 3. lacquer to seal that's it!

Terrific! Any chance we could get some pictures of its innards posted? I'm curious to see how everything fits. And I hope the theme from Goldfinger was one of the first mp3s you played

re: Innards sure, I'll post some pix - it's pretty straightforward, with the HD and CD-ROM side by side. FYI - since they take up the whole tray, it's difficult to get comm slot ethernet to fit - even if you cut a groove, it's too tall and clashes with the CD-ROM. That's why I went with the PCI ethernet, which lays flat.

I'm with Turgon--I'm diggin' the side-load CD-ROM drive. The cutout for it looks excellent.

| Ditto from me, I love that side loading hack you did. It looks similar to the tray-loader installation on my IIfx. You took the surrounding bezel off the front to get the tray face closer to being level with the case's side surface, right? jt
