Does anyone know where I can buy Avid Cinema for Mac? OR better yet, I have the installer for use with the card and I have the Card installed in my MP 7600. it says it wont work in my machine... which makes sense, since pulled from a 6500. But non the less, is there a way to make this work? Brian

Tried eBay yet? The version that shipped with the AV Macs is pretty close to a full version, IIRC, and it should work with the onboard hardware in any beige PPC. Wait a second...are you saying you're using a PCI card from a 6500 in a 7600? Or something else? If it's PCI, what card is it? cl

Its a card made by Avid Cinema. It shipped in 6500s and 6400s (in certain models), and when I try to use the installer in a 7600 (with the card present in the PCI slot), it says it will not install on this machine. Also interesting to note is the fact this is the only card I have seen that utilizes the DAV connector. Brian

| I bet that's why it won't work in the 7600. They didn't have the same connector as the x4/x500, did they? cl

I don't know how well it would work in a MP mac but have you tried tricking it with Wish I Were (I think thats what its called)? It basicaly tricks the systeminto thinking it is something else. I used it once and I think it tricks everything from 68ks to 9600. Install it on the 7500 and tell it its a 6500 then see if you can install.

Wish I were only supports up to the Nubus Macs.... and yes, the 7600 has a DAV connector, the same one.

| Is this a change from before? Double-check against the latest Wish I Were version; I'm pretty sure it supports everything up to at least the New World Macs, which all report a gestalt ID of 406. cl

I just did some googling myself; the search string "wish I were" (put that part in quotes) "Mac gestalt" (not in quotes) found plenty. cl

Wish I Were works on everything up to and including the New World Macs. I use it on my G4 Sawtooth to do OS installations for other computers on external HDs.

You can also use MachID which I've been using to get Mac OS 8 to install on my Quadra 605, which I thought was a supported machine. Anywa you can just type in whatever Gestalt ID you want and restart.
