Hey guys,

Been delving into my 'DIY' Apple II that I bought. I think that card with the SCART connector is going to take me a long time to figure out, but I'm wondering if I have an alternate video port right in front of me. It's that small 5 pin port the previous owner mounted on the side of the case. It has several wire leads that go to a socket on the motherboard, right beside a tall, thin 'dial' of some kind (I can twist it, like a rheostat). I'm wondering if that might be composite video out? The 5 pin composite connectors from my Commodores/etc fit it just fine.

If that's the case, I could get to a power up test pretty quickly. I'm not sure what that 'dial' does.. but I feel it must have something to do with video. Thoughts?

One other question.. note the empty socket to the left in the first pic. There is a little connector that comes off one of the two boards (not the one with the SCART connector, but the one wired to it) that connects to that... I wonder if the machine depends on something being in that socket to function? Like a RAM chip? Or if I can fire it up without it likely.

I believe that's a joystick input, my bell & howell II+ has a connector that looks just like that. Also notice the 16 pin socket it's attached to; it's in the exact spot the normal motherboards usually place their 16 pin joystick inputs.

Drat.. totally forgot about that on my own B&H. Darn. Unless there's an easier option.. I guess im stuck with either figuring out how to install a composite connector or fix that.. card. Ulp.

Hello falter,
inspect the first picture in this thread....
view the right side and recognize the 2 goldplated and isolated wirewrap socket clamps.
measure them with DMM if they have +5 Volt, +12 Volt, -5 Volt or - 12 Volt.
IF NONE OF THAT Voltages is present there, i guess that are the connections for video out 40 col.
one surely was used for picking tha video up to the SCART videocard by wire
and the other was used to pick the videosignal by wire to the 80 col. videocard.
If that is true with DMM you should measure at DC something about 1 to 1,5 Volt
and similar at AC
- and the one closest to the rear should be dependent to the potentiometer which is surely used to regulate intensity between 0,2 Volt and maximum of 1,5 Volt....
