Any reason to keep Hayes Micromodem card?

In the last year I've managed to acquire a Micromodem card or two.

I really can't think of a more useless piece of retro-tech. All the same, I'm reluctant to simply toss them in the trash without checking here first. Is there any reason at all to keep these?

Or if you like - establish a "private home BBS" ......
you don´t need a real telephone to create such system...
required parts:
one Apple or PC with Modem and BBS online and "larger" Harddisk holding files like library....
one or 2 Apple with Modem linked to the BBS with modem by 2 wires...

Okay, in the trash they go then.

I just wanted to double-check. After all, I'm the guy who tossed 15 years' worth of Byte magazine when he moved in 2006, 'cause what good were decades-old computer magazines?

dramsey,

I believe Dorkbert has the closest of correct answers.

I have several modem cards and modems of various types sitting here, but I will not get rid of them.
They do have (in my opinion) some historical value, but only to me.

I also have two Uthernet Cards sitting here (brand new in the box and never used).
But I will eventually get around to using them

If you have been up to eBay lately, you will see modem cards and modems for sale that have been up there for a long time.
No one is buying them. Also the sellers are asking too much, also my opinion, (as usual).

If you would like to get rid of them, shoot me a PM with what you would like for them, otherwise keep them as a reminder
of what the technology was like before the Internet came along.

Yeah, but mine was funniest in my own mind.

I actually gave one to a user on the Facebook Apple II page just a couple of weeks ago - I just asked for shipping for it. I didn't have a need, but others might. Offer it for the cost of shipping and get it into the hands of someone who cares.

A fine bit of hardware to be sure. I wrote my first BBS for the MicroModem. I also learned about electronics and telecom by doing experiments and hardware mods on one of these. To me this is a treasured piece of hardware.

well.... what can i reply to such a statement ???

have you ever just taken a look at the Apple II Documentation Center ???

Maybe that magazin didn´t value up much to you....
.
but a lot of other guys around here have another understanding
to the terms of "heritage" and "preservation"...

anyhow the tossing is over at the moment....

but if you ever decide to toss off old magazins again -
and they have not been preserved as scans at the documentation center...
you serve the community by passing over the mags to someone,
who is willing to scan them and upload the scans to the documantation center
before tossing them away
....

sincerely speedyG

I guess you also would trash a Guttenberg Bible
if you would not expect high bids at sotheby´s ?

Seriously though....

Place them up on eBay or AmiBay and cover your shipping and Handling.. Someone might really want them...

Have you seen these helpful little guides, from Don Lancaster???

Speedy,

I know dumping the Bytes was a mistake. I miss them myself. The reason I was asking about the Micromodem cards is that I didn't want to make such a mistake again.
