Brother can you spare a gasket...

I am preparing to retro-bright one of my old IIC's that was pretty yellow. I have it completely disassembled but ran into one snag. The upper rubber keyboard gasket was so dry and brittle it was just fragments of crumbly rubber. Any chance of finding that part anywhere for sale...came up empty on an Ebay search? If not I figure I could make my own using the lower gasket as a template. The lower keyboard gasket was still in good shape....surprised it wasn't in the same shape as the other.

I think you are talking about the rubber protection for the keyboard, so water don't get into the key caps. Every time i fix a //c, that rubber part dissolves to thin air.

That part is almost impossible to get in my experience, but I have scanned one and am working on a template, to see if I can laser cut new ones from rubber sheets. Will let the group know when and if I make them.
Good luck

Yep...Your idea sounds a bit more high tech and probably better then what I am going to try with an exacto knife and a small hole punch Smile I have another IIC to disassemble after this one and I expect I will run into the same thing with it.

Unless you are a dribbler, or let babies and toddlers use your //c... do you really need it?

IMO, it just makes the KB mushier.

Safhey,

Sarcasm aside...no it probably is not absolutely necessary, however, I have been know to spill a drink or two on my keyboard over the last 34 years. Made one up this morning out of a template I made, took about an hour and a half from start to finish...did not consider it a waste of time....it is a hobby after all.
