Dead 'French' Classic Color ?

Hello,

I live in France and I am the (happy ?) owner of a ... dead Classic Color Macintosh... So please sorry for the mistakes I could write in the text bellow.

Well this CC comes in pretty well condition, with all the stuffs, manual, floppies for installation etc... But the fact is that it doesn't start.

Everything has been checked (new battery, fuse, adb keyboard, adb cable) but ... The green & small light on the front panel is off.

The strange thing is that when I remove the mother board, and then press the power switch, I can ear a 'boing' sound that seems to go to the screen. I can even ear a small sound, (like a capacitor) especially when the power cable has been disconnected for a longer time.
And so if I insert the motheboard (with the power switch 'On'), this 'powersound' disapears...

Thinking that it was the motherboard and bad capacitors, I have replaced all of them. There were indeed small very small marks of leakage aroud & behind the caps (the surface around is not as shiny than the rest of the board, that looks +/- new).

But the result is nothing : definitely the only thing I got is a dark screen and the problem remains the same.

Any new idea ?

Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards

Sébastien - France

Time for a Power Color Classic Mod?

Sorry if that seems a bit harsh, but if worse comes to worse it will give you somewhere to go.

Salut, Sébastien
I recall one of my Colour Classics had the same problem, and I traced it to a poor connection where the analog board (the upper high-voltage board) plugs into the wiring loom that connects it to the lower motherboard. There's a metal shield that has a slight upward angle, and either it was making contact with something on the board, or the contacts on the board were dirty and not making a good connection.

I also remember the speaker connection was an issue, either because of a similar problem the speaker wouldn't work, or the Mac would only power up if I disconnected the speaker. Apologies, it's been a long time since I owned a Colour Classic.

Hello,

Thank you for these first ideas.
I will check the upper power supply board (the analogic board) and all the electrical connections. I hope that the motherboard is still working Undecided

In the meanwhile, I may have found someone who could give me a stock CC, that is not in good shape because has been used for professional usage for 18 years! The floppy seems to be dead, but the computer is still working... So !

regards
