My personal Monitor II has started acting up. It no longer displays anything but a vertical line down the center.
You can see it here:
What do I need to replace so I can fix it? Admittedly I've never had any issues with a monitor II; so I don't honestly know whats wrong with it...
Thanks in advance for any help!
Ah, that's the horizontal deflection transistor that has gone out. When it fails, the electron gun can't "shoot" any electrons "sideways," which is why you see everything bunched up in the center in a vertical line.
I don't know what the part number is on that monitor for that transistor, but it is a common repair for arcade game monitors. I would start calling around TV repair places and ask if they still service CRTs, and second, if they are able to replace deflection transistors. If they say No or Huh, then keep calling.
Good luck,
Warr
It has to be in the horizontal yoke drive circuit which is L401 width coil, L402 H Lin coil, the yoke itself, C420 16mfd 25v non-polarized. Check coils and yoke with an ohmmeter, look for solder cracks, connections, etc then would have to be C420. For a faster check, you can ohm the entire path from the non-grounded side of C420 to the collector of the horizontal output transistor Q401. The path should be low ohms, like < 100. Hope this helps - Larry G
PS - no, it's not the horizontal output transistor. There would be NO high voltage and screen would be dark. Fix should be simple, I bet it's a crack in solder or PCB trace
Hello transwarp II guy,
I hope the Monitor II SAMS book can help you.
Thanks for the info! Hopefully I can get it fixed soon.
Be sure and report back here
