I wanted to share some pictures I have found over the time on the Internet of very early Macintosh computers,
these can be best described as prototype units as we never saw a Macintosh with the Lisa 1's twiggy floppy drive.

They make for interesting viewing, subtle changes can also be noted to the rear of the case as well.

Does anyone know if any of these systems survived?

I don't imagine there is much information out there about these or if any have survived.

If I had a twiggy drive it would be interesting to see if you could connect it up to a Macintosh 128k, and would it work? What size would the disk read as?

Re: Prototype Macintosh computers

Besides the fact that this proto is a 5.25 inch drive machine, that picture 0007 has an External Drive with two 5.25 slots in it. The Case seems to match the Proto Mac.

Extremely interesting. Smile

I think you will find that is a Lisa1 beside the Macintosh

notice the Lisa Keyboard etc...

Lisas were used to develop software on for the Macintosh.

Re: Prototype Macintosh computers

After looking again I can see that you are absolutely right.
Both have the 5.25 Disk Drives. That is amazing. Smile
