Take a look at the image, there is a blue wire soldered near ULN2003 and a red one area of D3, what does it do? the other end has them tied together.
thanks!

Re: Wire soldered onto Disk ][ Analog Card.

Looks to me like former cables to read/write protect switch....
is there a hole in front plate with missing switch ?
Does the disk have write protect disabled even if notch at disk is closed by tape or writeprotect label and
the sensor should indicate write protection ( i.e. Write permanent enabled ) ?

If not sure check pages at:
http://www.appleii-box.de/H084_1_AppleIIDiskService1.htm
and check there details about write protect switch.

Re: Wire soldered onto Disk ][ Analog Card.

On this Disk ][ the other end of the wire is just twisted together. No other modifications. I make it a habit to open up all ebay hardware to see what I am really working with. I find all sorts of "things" and learn a lot.
I have a 20$ apple //e motherboard and keyboard showing up tomorrow that they previous owner said it gives a checkerboard on the monitor, no beep no logo.. So I hope to have some fun working through the Apple II Plus/IIe troubleshooting and repair guide to see if I can get it to beep.
thanks!
