Tibook 800 screen goes dim

Iv got a problem with my tibook 15 inch 800mhz, when i start up it is ok for a couple of seconds then the screen goes very very dim I can just about make out my desktop. If i put it to sleep by closing the lid then awakening it by opening it again the same happens.
I was wondering if any one know what is wrong with it?

Known issue with Tiger that has been going on for months for me. Your lucky if it is just starting. Before my AppleCare ran out in December I was on the phone a few times with AppleCare, but they have yet to fully fix the problem.
