making widgets

hi everyone,
I am interested in making applications for the mac and thought a simple dashboard widget would be a good place to start. Is there anything you recomend reading up on? Also, anyone whose ever made one, was it relitively easy or hard for a first project. thanks for any help.
How difficult making the widget is depends upon what you want it to do. Generally fairly easy though.
