I give up-help with Mac/Z-term

even though you don't own a windows machine, you should check the step by step directions and make sure the settings match those in z-term (under settings->connection) good luck!

I did set up Z-Term to match the hyperterm settings such as baud, bit, speed and the like.

I suspect it is an issue with Mac OS 10.4 not porting to my adpater. If there is anybody that has a Mac OS X connected to their replica 1 please let me know. Tom?

What type of cable are you using with the Mac? With the Mac you need a null-modem cable. Also, I hear the USB-serial converters don't always work like they should.

I am using a serial cable that came from my Parallax Developers Kit and a Keyspan USA-19 USB to Serial Adapter. The adapter is reportably the one that is fully supported with Mac OS 10 and should work to that end.

I didn't try the null modem (for whatever reason I though that was considered a bad idea) but I think I have a null modem adapter somewhere to fit it. I'll give it a try and get back to you via this post.

the reason that you cant get communications is that probably that cable you are using is not null modem, so your terminal program wont work. on a null modem cable, the tx and rx lines are swaped, like a crossover cable.

No luck with the null modem.

When I'm in Z-term there doesn't seem to be a way to select a port other than the 2 bluetooth and 1 modem lines. I have a gut feeling it has to do with the adapter not being reconized as a serial port with Z-term but I wouldn't know where to start fixing this.

Tom Owad, didn't you use a mac and a keyspan adpater to communicate with your Apple 1? Anybody else use a modern macintosh to connect to the replica 1?

Short version: I got the Z-term/USA-19 adpater combo to work with my Powerbook.

1. I needed the updated Mac OS X driver (v2.0) and have it installed.
2. After much head scratching I discovered that the all caps needed to be on in order to send the required ascii characters.
3. No null modem. Works as a proper terminal.
4. In Z-term I set up the baud to 2400, but changed the character and line delays to 2 and 20 respectfully to get a better transfer rate.
5. QuickTerm also works but I was unable to cut and paste the programs into the terminal screen.
6. With some tinkering, I was able to get the adapter to work using Hyperterm through my Virtual PC connection. As expected, the connection was slow and staying connected to the USB adapter hit and miss.

Anyway, thanks for all the help Vince. Had you not sent me that link to resman post I won't have though to look for an updated driver.

LOL, I remember when I first developed the serial interface. I thought it didn't work right because I didn't have capslock on. That gets a few people. Good job sticking with it.
