with the glow logo mod on my wallstreet having been a complete success, i think i am ready to rip the machine apart to resolder the AC jack inside and replace the clock battery. currently i have the t8 screwdriver i need to get inside and a 35w soldering iron.

specifically for the AC jack, should i deal with even buying more solder (and what kind in that case) and other supplies? i'd like to hear anyone's experience on this.

and the clock battery. i considered relocating it somehow, but don't know where it would go. i'd like to get one without having to rely on ebay or internet order. any stores that might carry them?

Regarding the a/c jack...

I don't know how well that silicon caulk will hold it, as caulk is usually fairly flexible, and considering how prone that piece is to failure, I wouldn't want to have to go removing all of it to do the repair again. If you're going to permanently goop your computer parts (not recommended, at all) use a good two-part epoxy. It won't flex. The proper repair for these though, is fairly simple. First, the soldering. All you need to do is reflow the power solder points that are already there, they should have more than enough solder on them already. I've fixed more than my share of these things, and I've never needed to add more. Second, the fix to keep it from breaking again, is that Apple never properly soldered the ground/attaching points on the bottom side of the board, where they pass through. Flow them too, and add a little solder here to tighten up the connection, and it will be a world of difference, and if you somehow manage to break it again, it will still be easily repairable.

what are the dimensions of the clock battery? i'm measuring to see where i could relocate it to, but it would make things easier to know how big it is. or is there a possibility that there's another powerbook battery that would work?

i just made a model of the battery according to those measurements, and it seems like under the hard drive is the perfect location. the only issue is placing it such that the drive is able to breathe and to make it easy to take the drive out. the connector would have to be extended as well.
