i have the heatsink out of my wallstreet right now so that i could take measurements to see what i would have to do for a custom heatsink when i noticed a tube that i always thought was just structural.
NOT FOUND: 1
the exposed portion of the tube (circle in white) comes out of the main heat spreader that goes over the processor, and the end of the tube is visible through what i can see of a machined ridge in the spreader (circled in red). i honestly think i must be seeing things. while i'm questioning if it's a heat pipe, might it be something that serves a similar purpose? or is it structural like i originally thought? you might as well take the heatink out of your wallstreet and take a look.

I believe it serves a similiar purpose to a heat pipe as the entire metal plate is used as a heatsink. I believe it just helps spread the heat out on that thin sheet.

i would think. it seems to small in diameter to be a heat pipe, but it has the same structure. this might make building a more efficient heatsink much easier.
