What versions of Powermacs can a 5400/180 MB and 6400/200 MB upgrade

Well the 6400 and 6500 powermacs/ performas are parts interchangeable,
The 5400's were somewhat unique, not sure what machine if any would be swappable parts wise...

I have a few 5400/180 motherboards and one 6400/200 motherboard. All with there back panels and the front panels for the 5400's

Can they be used for:

5200's
5300's
5400's
and 5500's (although that would be a downgrade)

The 5400 board will work in the 5400/5500, 6360/6400/6500. As for older machines, I know that with the 630/6200/6300 series (not including 6360) you would need to upgrade the power supply in order for the board to work. it is worth noting that the 5400/5500/6360/6400/6500 boards are essentially the same with the PCI riser card being the only differentiation. The 6360 is essentially a 160 mhz 5400 in the old 630 style enclosure. My understanding is that the PCI bus requires more power than the PDS slot.

I recall putting a 275 mhz 6500 board into a 6360 once for a customer back when I lived in Tampa. Had all the fixin's too - neat little box - CS II enet card, the video system and tv tuner, L2 cache slot G3 card (400 mhz iirc), and a pci video card from a B&W G3. Neat computer.

As for the 5200 series, I believe that you would likely need to do the same power supply upgrade in order for the logic board to work in a 580/5200/5260/5300 series machine.

Paging Color Classic modders. Most of the guys who have done Takky color classic mods would probably be the best folks to ask as they will know more about the power supplies on the 5200/5300/5400 series machines.

5500 logic board is the same as the 6500 logic board thus they are interchageable.

It is the same with 5400/6400 power macs.

Isn't there a difference in the height of the rear bracket, to accomodate the two PCI slots of the 6(4|5)00? Swapping the panels is a fairly painless 4 screw affair, though. I know the switch has to be done to put a different board into a 580 case.

The only difference between a 5400/5500 and a 5400/6500 is the riser card (interchangeable) and the rear bracket (also interchangeable). When you remove the riser and the bracket, it's the same board.
