Powerbook 5300cs Wont Start Up (crackling/fuzz), Please Help Me!

PowerPC Macs

About two days ago, I got a Powerbook 5300cs for free. It came with a 2gb HD installed, but with no OS. It also came with the original 500mb HD, which I swapped in, and it booted right up into OS8. This afternoon, I had it disconnected from it's power supply, and my brother booted it up and started fooling around with it, and then it died (dead battery).

This evening, I was watching a movie, when all of a sudden I heard a loud crackling/fuzz noise coming from it. I opened the lid, tried to wake it up, and when I couldn't, I pulled the battery out. I then reinserted the battery, plugged in the power supply, but it wont boot up. All I get is the green light at the upper right corner of the screen, and absoloutely nothing else.

Is there any way to fix this, or is my fancy new 5300 screwed?

Make sure the PowerBoard (the one that the battery makes contact with) is firmly plugged in. It might have come loose when you upgraded the HD. I had that happen on a PowerBook 3400, i would just press the button under the video to turn it off and then turn it back on.

Good Luck
