Only One Drive Bay Problem

Before I dive into this Tosiba again, I want to install Windows 95, but I need a boot disk to do that so that I can use the CD-ROM drive, but I can only have the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive in at one time. Can I boot with the floppy disk and then put in the CD-ROM drive? I have no other ideas like always, so I depend on everyone on this website for help. Thanks a million!

From what I know, you have to restart each time you cant to switch anexpantion bay module. I had a similar problem with my old Dell, but I also had a cable that allowed me to use the floppy drive externally. Sticking out tongue

I'm not sure what you could do, other than use the CD to make 50 or so windows 95 floppies on another computer...

What Toshiba is it? I've got a bunch, and all the ones that take a floppy or CD-ROM drive in an expansion bay also have an external case to put the floppy in. I can get a hold of several types pretty cheap at a local computer resleer if you need one. That will allow you to put the floppy in the case and the CD-ROM drive in the expansion bay, and use both at the same time. I've got a whole series of older Toshibas, from 486 Satellite 1900 up to a P-2 Tecra 8000. I know the floppy cases don't work across them all, but in general the Satellites take the same external case.

I think that I figured it out.

Since this laptop has Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on it, I can use the DOS CD-ROM drivers from Toshiba, then insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM, and install from Windows. Does anyone think that this will work? Thanks a million!

At the very least you can cop

At the very least you can copy over the file to the HDD and then boot the floppy and install from there. That way you won't have the Win 3.1 swap file in the way, or other open files. Depnding on RAM you might want to disable the swap anyway so that you can gain several MB more space on the HDD.

if u already have the cd driv

if u already have the cd drivers under dos, then yes it will work perfectly! just put the cd in and run setup from the file manager.
