All-In-One G3 (AIO) Speed up hack

I can overclock this to nearly three times the speed by jumpers? What's the catch? I believe mine is a 233 mhz G3 AIO. What advice would you give on those? (Just can't believe I didn't try this sooner.)

No, you can't overclock to three times the base speed. Not with the stock 233 CPU at least. Being able to set a higher clock speed at the jumpers does not, unfortunately, mean you can actually boot any installed CPU at that speed.

It's likely you'll be able to run your AIO at 266MHz, and a very slim possibility you can run 300.

You could drop a faster CPU in there to take advantage of the higher jumper settings. A 333MHz CPU from the last of the beige G3s would give you a nice boost for very little money.

How about if I robbed a 400 mhz G3 chip from an accelerator board?

yeah could do that and overclock it to a little higher speed.maybe 466mhz

...just make sure the G3 on the accelerator is socketed, like This One.

Thing is, unless you've got one on hand the ebay cost of G3 CPUs 400 MHz and above is so close the the price of a B&W G3 that it's not really worth it.

Hmmm... yeh it is a sonnet card like that I believe. So once I get the 400 mhz chip off that, is there a way to put the 233 mhz chip on the accelerator card to make that work with the slower chip? (Or will you need to know more about the accelerator board I'd imagine?)

With my AIO, I originally swapped the 233mhz processor with a 400mhz zif processor from a blue and white G3, and than I bought a G4 zif from Ebay. My speedy AIO! I used the jumper settings to overclock it from http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3-ZONE/ click the overclocking tab.

That's the site i used to overclock the 233 i had in mine originally (i got 280MHz from it) and i pimped 417 out of my newly installed 300Mhz B&W G3 CPU. It's not that hard to do. But make sure you don't push the board about 83.3Mhz. You might also want to think of extra cooling when doing it as well...
