Unstable Wireless connection under linux

Other Computers

i'm "trying" to run a linux server on an old pc of mine, and the problem with it is, for some reason, the wireless connection will drop out after a while. I've changed the mtu setting, and it still drops the connection. I also can't run a wired connection because its just not feasible. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you use a wireless ethe

Could you use a wireless ethernet bridge? Or a different wireless card? Ive been having some problems with using certain older machines with newer wireless-G accesspoints.

tools?

perhaps gkrellm and ethereal and something to measure signal strength would be useful to install.
They might give a clue as to when it drops out, which could lead to why.
I'm sure netstat could have something to say about it too, but I don't know how to drive it.

Tried looking in /var/log at the kernel log or anything else relevant? There may be error messages from the driver, for example.
