heh, yeah

But why do they do that? Is there actually an angle, or is it just some wierd psycho compulsion, like Turret's syndrome?

Maybe I'll start doing something similar, drop in on some unsuspecting sexchat board and spam-post Macputer-centric keywords.

heh heh heh heh *snort-chuckle*

Spam several forums, get more hits on your site. Don't know if increases their hits in search engines or not.

This is why we need a night nanny

i've aid it before. the past few nights, when I came on, there were 2-3 spam topic each night. it gets cleaned up as soon as a mod gets here, but I have seen it linger for hours. I really dont feel like doing it however. What we could do i have a few people patrol here in the middle of the night.

or, another idea I have seen that work on other message boards, is require a key code to regiter, so the bots can not get in. this works, but let's not have it so every time you pot, you have to enter a code. that is tedious.

But, the problem with some of these posts (for that anyway) is that there is no link in the text. Just a series of words or possibly phrases. It's like someone turned a bot loose before they filled in the "Your site here" box...

Tedious? Oh good lord, man! I really don't want to enter a code every time I have to use the pot. I can just imagine the first time when it's an "emergency" and I forget the code. Then it will be early childhood all over again, only this time there won't be anyone else to clean it up...

;-)

Huh?

. . . oh, *that* pot. You had me going there for a moment . . .

That's another thing that leads me to believe these are bots. If I go to edit one of those posts, every one of those words is a link, but due to the bbcode 1st link quirks, it's not clickable.
That's a blessing for us, I suppose.

Idiot Spammers

It would probably be worthwhile one of these days to add one of those "warped numbers" picture widgets to the account creation process to discourage this sort of thing.

Just a thought, anyway. You see the same list-of-words posts in just about any forum that doesn't have some sort of controls on posting.
