My Loot at the last Indiana State UNiversity Auction; or how I hate people with no technical knowledge at auctions.

Remember Outdoors

So, the college in my town, Indiana State University has a surplus equipment auction everymonth. Theres TONS of iMacs of varerying revisions, lotsa B&W G3s, and the occasional G4 and G5s, and there aree also usually a fair amount og Older beige Macs, and usually a few 68k macs, like the SE and such. But this time, there werent. and I was pretty bummed; this is my source for adding to my classic mac collection, and for parts. THey also have laptops, but they usually go way too high, and it turns into an ego war. Well, they had a 3400c 240mhz/64mb RAM/4gb HD/9.1 this time around. I wanted it. Bad. So I wait about 40 minuets for the auctioneer to go the laptop section. and I wait for them to get through most of the other laptops, staing on this awfull cement floor, and I had been up all the previous night. My fuse was getting shorter by the seconed. *FINALLY* he gets the the onw I want. I had bid $50, and He was on his last call when some bozo comes up and bids it up to $150, then he just stabts tghere and holds up the entirte auction looking at it, and turns around. after they had already moved on, and asks the auctioneer assistant if he could have it for $50. I was pissed. Royaly. I havent been that pissed in a long time. Anyways. on to what I actuallyu got Sticking out tongue.

Sonnet Zif G4-400 2mb L2 cache - $5
Box of Various nubus cards and adaptors - $1
P3 933 - $1
box of ADB mice - $2

I love the Zif G4. I poped it into a G3 MT and OMG, it is almost usable ^_^. Now all I need is a 64mb Radeon 7000 for it, and it will be maxed out ^_^.

Your fellow fritter critter,

SOrry for the bad grammar and

Sorry for the bad grammar and spelling. I was venting. :|

How about this....

I feel for you there. Argh!

I had a laptop to fix whose sole issue was that a piece of plastic the size of a pinhead responsible for pressing the power button switch was broken. I found two instances of the item on eBay. Because of proxy bidding I wound up paying $81 for a piece of plastic and a small circuit board. Sad

NC State Univerisity has an auction every Friday for their surplus stuff, but I'm working when it occurs. From what I've heard from those who do go it's not nearly as nice as it used to be.

I still get to this one, although in a manner of speaking I'm at work too then. It's not too bad, I've been going to NCSU's for years. Here of late they have been having a pile of Mac hardware (B/W's, Sawtooth's- or is that Sawteeth?) Several of the machines in my sig came from there. At least it's not a full blown auction. The only thing you have to worry about are the "pro" surplus scavengers that get in line at 4:00am and happen to snag "your" treasure.

I'm feeling your pain on the Indiana auction. That sucks. I haven't had that happen exactly- but on eBay- yeah plenty. Schlep on over to NCSU's sale when you have the time Eye-wink
