Mac SE wants to join OS X network

I am a recent switcher from Windows to Intel Macs and now have 4 Macs on the home network (20" iMac, 24" iMac, MacBook and Mac Mini) all running OS X Tiger. Recently I dusted off my old Mac SE from my early days (I left Apple when they went PowerPC and came back when they finally got it right). Anyway my SE (dual 800K model w/external SCSI disk running 6.0.7) wants to break into the home network so I can update some files, run backups, etc etc. The SE has no ethernet and I have no ability to write 800K floppies. How can I reach my old SE? Can someone help me - my SE is an island!

SE limited

well... the SE does have a PDS, so you could, I would imagine, get a nic that sticks in there, something like this (I have no idea if this is compatible or not).

Its got the moto 68000 proc, no ?no co-processor?, so no NetBSD or linux... but I believe you can stick a HD in there... and run up to MacOS 7.5.5, enable AppleTalk (not the same as AppleShare) on one of your OS X boxes, and you should be able to link it up.

I really like the SE boxes, my favorite compacts. SE/30s are useful still (takes 128MB ram, runs A/UX/NetBSD/Linux), neat, but an SE is limited. Then again... I think there's a Mac Plus web server out there, and the SE should be more advanced than that, so you can make it a webserver

The 68030 PDS cards for the S

The 68030 PDS cards for the SE/30 & IIsi don't work in an SE. The SE is a 68000 PDS.

ah... forgot about that

I forgot... the SE/30 & IIsi have the same PDS... but SE's is different. So nics for the SE 68000 PDS must be extremely rare. It'd probably be easier to find one of those weird nics that attached to the external scsi DB25 (SE's have a scsi bus, right?)

Asante EN/SC

Yes I do have a SCSI and I have looked into the Asante EN/SC solution. I have not been able to find one that actually includes the floppy disk and that is critical in this case because I have no way to make an 800K floppy. Would there be someone out there that could help me obtain a floppy disk of the Asante Ethertalk? The file is available for free download on the Internet but I don't have a way to get it on a floppy to get it into the SE.

I think I have the power to do that. I have an EN/SC, just never tried it out. I downloaded the software off the net myself, but haven't gotten back to putting it on a 800k floppy. I have enough machines (like my se/30 with PDS NIC) and floppies to give 'er a spin. If you want to PM your address to me, I'll see what I can do.

pls look for this stuff,it is called"sharetalk"it can use traditional local talk and connect ethernet for rj45,but you must use phonenet,and plug it by phone line,so you can connect ethernet and local talk net,but you must notice,if ur compuer use os 10.4 or above,maybe cannot accept appletalk of old os.like os7.6.1.but 10.3 it is no problem.I have one,and I use it is okay.so I introduce this stuff to you.
