Ibook refuses to install Os x Tiger

Hi First ever post on here so please go easy
(I Have A Ibook G3 800)
I have a real dillema,I have a ibook with a bad logic board, so bought a prevously enjoyed one pretty cheap,
so wiped the hard drive ready to do a fresh install and continued to fit the logic board all fitted fine when i run the ibook all seems fine to, but when i try to install off my retail mac osx10.4 disks it all goes wrong its get up to the blue screen i choose the language, it moves to the next screen 'preparing installation' with the blue lines moving in the box only the blue lines only move for a bit then suddenly stop the cd stops spinning, it doesnt move past that its almost like its frozen but you can still move the mouse cusor around the screen which is really strange
anyone have any ideas would be thankfull

Possibilities ...

The possible causes are numerous:

• Bad RAM -- or needs to be reseated?
• Bad AirPort card -- or needs to be reseated?
• Bad HD -- or needs to be reformatted?
• Bad Tiger disc(s) -- or bad optical drive?
• Bad drive cable(s) -- or poorly seated?
• Your "previously enjoyed" MLB is no better than your original MLB?

Are you able to test your Tiger disc(s) on a known-good machine? Do you have an external Firewire CD or DVD drive you can try? A different RAM card to swap in? Sometimes the only way to get to the bottom of a problem is by process of elimination. Good luck!

Bad RAM -- ram removed and tryed again also flashed pram (no change)
Bad AirPort card -- no airport card installed
Bad HD -- hd was good before and have reformated several times (no change)
Bad Tiger disc(s) -- I have 2 optical drives both good as far as i know
also have another borrowed tiger disk but strangly install gets stuck at exactly the same place with both disks
Bad drive cable(s) -- I have a spare will try but im pretty sure its ok
Your "previously enjoyed" MLB is no better than your original MLB? -- this i think is the case but i just wanted to see if i was missing something

Boot ROM version correct?

You need to check if your Mac requires a firmware (Boot ROM version) update. Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.

iBook 800 was introduced in the Jaguar/Panther era, so it should be ready for Mac OS X right out of the box. My iBook 700 came with Jaguar pre-installed.

i dont have any os on my hard drive installed and dont have a os9 disc what should i do ?

Have just checked it says 'no update needed' for my ibook
also just tryed the other ide cable but to no avail
still will not install crashes at the same place everytime

Target Drive

IF you have another mac you can connect this one to with a fire wire cable you can set up the broken Ibook as a target drive by doing th following:
1) turn off the ibook
2) connect firewire to ibook and to the other mac.
3) restart ibook and hold down the "t" key until the firewire logo appears on screen
4) restart the good mac with the installation cd/dvd in it
5) when you go to install the OS select the firewire drive (ibook) and to the entire install.

This should get you past the os problem. Now if you want to wipe the hard drive prior to installing the OS you can use the disk utilities on the installation disk.
