Tiger on wallstreet fun...or lack of really

PowerPC Macs

Hi, I have been tinkering with my powerbook wallstreet as of late, and just as a curious experiment, I have decided to get Tiger running on it, mainly because its handy right now. I thought that I might just use my Pismo to install the OS to both a 20 gig and a 4 gig hardrive (*old world rom not withstanding* and the Wallstreet simply won't book. I get the flashing question mark. Here I thought that the problem with getting 10.3 and .4 was getting it to install. Am I wrong? And yes, I have enough ram to run the system. Thanks!

Don't you have to use expostf

Don't you have to use expostfacto for anything higher than Jaguar on oldworld machines?

yea, to run 10.3 or 10.4 on an old world machine, u need xpostfacto

Worth the hassle?

and still a pain to try to set-up and OSX / Tiger on a Wallstreet.
even Jag is a pain.
Forgive me as I do love these old machines.
But please let them do what they were intended to do.

Wallstreet

I want to get x on the wallstreet for a number of reasons, but I really intend to use X.3 in the long run on it. That being said, I think in order to keep these machines useful (especially with the internet) mac os x should always be open as an option. I would consider running 10.2 on it if I could get a decent web browser with it. As for the machine's design, I really look at the wallstreet in comparason to my flimsy pismo and think "wow...it's a tank!" plus it still has a good battery.
I wouldn't mind dropping the cash for a g4 upgrade either. DVD playback would be nice too...
As for Xpostfacto, do you need that for the install alone, or do you need it to actually run the machine? I'm guessing both now.

i've used a friend's pismo, and-as flimsy as it looks-it's a very solid computer.

i really wouldn't at all reccomend os x on the wallstreet. i've had it on mine for all of a year and it was MISERY. i have os 9.2 on it again and haven't gone back since. i would only dare put os x on my wallstreet if i had a 500mhz g4, and it will be a long time before that ever happens.

Wallstreet...

If no X, then what should I even do with it then?

Firefox can run on 10.2, given you have enough ram to make things usable.

9.2.2 is what i prefer. if you want, you could use linux. i have debian on a pc i built, and i love it. all the apps are free for it, and you can make it appear like mac os x. haven't tried it on the wallstreet, but the 800mhz pc with 512mb of ram is very peppy.

Mac os 10.2

Actually I was seriously considering 10.2 just because of firefox. Now I'm considering it again. Unless of course someone knows where I can find an awesome linux distribution to put on it...and will run well on it.

.

I used Ubuntu on a Beige G3 with 192mb ram. I thought that 10.2 was faster than Ubuntu.

Perhaps if you wanted linux programs you could install X11 and Fink?
