Mystic woes
I installed a 575 motherboard in my CC yesterday.
(These are the specs: 32 MB RAM, 1 MB VRAM, Asante ethernet card - untested, 2GB Seagate HD, external 600e CD drive.)
I haven't done the soldering video mod, so I changed the boot ID in Resedit. This seemed to work fine (though I didn't really know what I was doing). It booted first time - seemed OK.
But I've got two problems:
1. The system is eating up almost all the available memory - leaving about 1MB spare for apps. That shouldn't be happening, should it?
2. I want to install Mac OS 8 (the hard drive had 7.5.5 on it). But the CC is very fussy about which floppy it will boot with. I typically get this error message: "Sorry, a system error occurred. bus error. To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key." (Turning off extensions makes no difference.)
I finally got it to boot from the Disk Tools floppy that comes with the Mac OS 8 installation disk. I wiped the hard drive. But two partitions on it - one with 7.5 and the other with 8 - but it won't boot from either. Same error message.
I didn't really know what I was doing in Resedit - the whole thing is a bit of a blur. Do I need to go through that again? If it worked once, doesn't the CC know think it's an LC 575? It continues to boot from Disk Tools fine.
Oh, and I also get occasional dead/sad Macs against a black screen...
Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.
