If you give a machead a pumpkin.......
You can get a lot of detail in pumkin carving if you start your cuts with an exacto knife into the pumkin skin and then switch to a pumkin carving knife deeper into it. Be sure to go slow and hold the exacto close to the head to avoid slippage.
