Help: step by step install on iBook G3
(Not sure if this post belongs here)
Keep in mind I'm a newbie to MACs, so I don't know the keyboard commands and combos you may take for granted.
I recently bought a 700MHz/512MB iBook G3. It had the black screen problem which I fixed with the "apply pressure on the GPU" method.
Now I want to install MAC OS 10.4
Here is what happens when I start up the comp:
- I hear the Chime
- Screen comes on after about 6 seconds
- I see a light gray background with a folder
- The folder toggles its inner picture between the MAC face logo and a '?' mark
The CD/DVD ROM will not open if I press the side panel ( I assume that's an eject button )
I have to open it via the little hole.
When I put in the install disk the ROM spins up and seems like it's reading it, but the screen never changes.
Keyboard is responding, the caps/num lock keys toggle the lights but FN-Brightness or FN-Eject has no effect.
When I leave the comp on I hear the HDD and ROM drive make sounds at regular intervals.
Not sure if that's their idle fun or if the comp is trying to boot.
So please give me step-by-step instruction just so I can get things rolling.
Thanks.
