Compacts not connecting to server

I just installed a new had on my server and reinstalled os9. But now when i try to connect over phonenet to it on my compact macs i choose the drives i want and it then gives me an id: 04 error when i hit ok. i tried it on my lc 520 running 7.5.x and its fine. How do i fix this?
