Apple 5.25 drive boots before 3.5

Okay, I know I have been posting too many questions and need a lot of help, and I wish I could help you people out, but I can barely help myself! (lol) I will try to help other people when I learn more about this stuff, it's hard to remember everything from sometimes over 20 years ago! Anyway, when using my IIgs, it always tries to look at things in the 5.25 drive instead of the 3.5 drive where I want it to. I go into the control panel and set my booting slot to slot 5 (where the 3.5 drive is) and it doesn't save those settings, so it just keeps reading from the 5.25 drive like crazy and I don't want it to do that! How can I save the settings on the control panel for next time when I turn the computer on? Also, on GS/OS, I want to add the DOS 3.3 FST so I can read/boot from DOS 3.3 disks in my 5.25 drive, how can I do that. One more thing, Pascal sounds interesting to me, where can I learn more about it and it's programming? Thanks!

That's because your battery is dead. Depending on the motherboard you have, it's either soldered on (ROM01) or in a carrier (ROM03). Either way, you can visit Radio Shack and get a 3-AA battery carrier for a couple of bucks and solder it in, or go to ReactiveMicro (http://www.reactivemicro.com/index.php?cPath=1_36_25) and get one of their no-solder jobs for a few bucks more.

Well. There's something I haven't heard anyone ask about in a while. I learn to code in Pascal. I'm coming in a little late on this conversation, and you may already have an idea about the basics of Pascal, but it was (is? maybe?) a great teaching language, as it is nice and structured, is pretty easy to read, and has most basic programming concepts. I assume you've found some sort of IIgs or II Pascal compiler, the utility of which I can't speak to. I learned on Borland's Turbo Pascal on a IBM XT, starting in Version 3. I would imagine that Turbo Pascal Ver 3 is going to be a lot like your compiler, as they should have been roughly contemporary. Borland's books were pretty good, and can be found a dime a dozen at used bookstores. The syntax should be similar.

If you need a cursory intro to Pascal, wikipedia is your friend for the basic basics.

Yes and no. It's the right battery (for a ROM03) but you'd need a new battery holder to make it work in a ROM01 because the original battery was soldered in permanently with leads.

Battery

And don't forget to completely remove the
old battery and thoroughly clean the circuit
board area there prior to installing the new
battery/holder. Otherwise corrosion can set
in and interfere with the new battery and
even discharge it.
