Wacked Cube

PowerPC Macs

My g4 cube is behaving very strangely lately. I bought it on ebay, and it seemed that every now and then, it would just randomly go to sleep or shut itself down. And now, it's started doing it so much that it's unusable. The power supply appears to be okay. I really think it's a software glitch or something telling it so go to sleep, and then restart or something. Once, it disconnected it's own modem before it "randomly" shut off. Any ideas?

My first guess . . .

. . . would be the power supply. If you think it's a software glitch -- nuke and pace, as they say. Wipe the drive and install a fresh system. That should settle the question of it being software.

What OS is it running? Run So

What OS is it running? Run Software Update, Apple may have fixed the problem if it's software. Otherwise get a pro to check the power supply.

Or a variation on the theme ...

... Or, you could install a fresh OS to an external FireWire hard drive and boot to that. That way if it doesn't turn out to be software related, you can go back to square one.
