Mac OS X on Beige G3 AIO, weird startup

I finally got Mac OS X(Mac OS 10.2.Cool working on my beige G3 AIO. But the weird thing about it, is that when the OS is loading. When its starts up, it gives me the normal gray apple logo and blank background, but then after 5 seconds, the whole screen goes into a command prompt like thing. It's not a kernal panic, because I can still do things from this terminal. But to get into Mac OS X, I have to type 'restart' into the terminal, wait until it prompts me to hit 'C' for continue, or 'R' for restart. Then I am finally into the OS where I can login and do stuff. I want to know how to eliminate this screen, every time I start up, it gives me this. I also want to know how to change the computer name. The hard drive that the OS is on was from the Blue and White G3 I had in my room, the beige G3 is in the basement, I'm trying to keep the network organized.

Verbose boot

Sounds like it's booting in verbose mode (where the Mac feels compelled to report its every move). You may have inadvertently held down the V key at boot -- maybe your were trying to boot to a CD recently (V is right next to C) ?

Try resetting the PRAM: At boot, hold down the following four keys until the machine has chimed four times: [Apple] - [Option} - P - R. If it's simply set to verbose boot, then this should reset you to a standard boot. If the problem is deeper, maybe another Fritter can chime in ... ?

Instead of the PRAM key combo, hit the CUDA button instead (far corner by the last PCI slot). I just recently installed OS 10.3 on a Beige G3, and the way I did it was by installing 10.2 first using XPostFacto, did the 10.2 combo upgrade, and then installed 10.3 with XPF. You're not supposed to need XPF for 10.2, but I use it anyway because it installs more reliably. I find even with 10.2, I run into problems with a straight installation. Lots of variables seem to be able to cause problems--RAM, PCI cards, hard drives. Do you have only one hard drive in the machine? Are the CD drive and the hard drive on separate ATA cables? Is your ROM rev. B or later? What PCI cards are installed?

I'm not touching anything.

I will try the PRAM reset. But for one thing, I know I'm not touching the keyboard, I'm not booting from any disk. I just leave it there and it does it. I have a CD drive and a zip connected to the same cable, and an 80GB hard drive fully formatted (I thought I heard somewhere that you can only format up to 8 GB on old beige machines with OS X ). I have the standard video card for the machine with RCA inputs and outputs, Nothing in the PCI, over-clocked the processor from 233 MHz to 333 MHz, and I'm not sure if the hard drive has Mac OS 9 on it or not. CD and hard drive on separate cables. It has ROM REV. B. Also, one of the RAM slots is mysteriously not working, so theres no RAM card in that. Like I said, I just pulled this out of a Blue and White G3 tower, might be recognizing different firmware and stuff.

Works

It works. The only thing about it is that it had a long boot time, and the boot screen is out of position. It does not have OS 9. I also want to know how to change the computer name. Since I stated above that I'm moved the hard drive to the G3 AIO, and I want to keep my network organized.

In OS X, go to the Sharing co

In OS X, go to the Sharing control panel. You can change the name there.
